Summer Crappie and Multi-Species Action: Lake Chesdin Fishing Report

There is nothing quite like the anticipation of a summer fish fry, especially when you have a crew determined to fill the cooler with high-quality eater panfish. On June 27, 2026, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Harold, Eric, and Ken, who made the trip down from Waldorf, Maryland, to spend a morning on the water with Goober Time Guide Service. With our launch wrapping up just as the morning light settled, we set out from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM under beautiful early summer conditions. The water temperatures were climbing, prompting us to focus our efforts on the transition zones and brush lines where active schools of summer crappie and white perch love to suspend.

From the moment we deployed our spread, it was clear that the lake was showing off with both great numbers and excellent quality. We started our morning targeting fish holding along structure in 10 to 12 feet of water. For this multi-species pattern, we rigged up our favorite Precision Cast Rods from Catch the Fever. Known for their incredible sensitivity and robust backbone, these rods are the absolute gold standard for light-tackle trolling and multi-species crappie applications. We spooled our reels with high-visibility Slime Line, allowing us to track our lines effortlessly in the summer sun, and secured our setups safely in our bulletproof SmackDown Rod Holders to handle the sudden, aggressive strikes.

Our tactical presentation of choice was pulling Bandit 300 crankbaits through the water column. The action started with an absolute bang when a beautifully colored 3.25 lb largemouth bass crushed our crankbait right out of the gate. This strong start was immediately followed by a steady stream of slab crappie, including a thrilling triple-up on crappie that had all three of our guests working in perfect unison. As the school kept biting, Harold, Eric, and Ken stayed busy putting crappie after crappie in the box, punctuated by aggressive white perch and a hard-charging channel catfish that tested the light-line drag.

Just when we thought the action might settle, we hit another flurry of activity. Another double-up on crappie was followed shortly after by another heavy largemouth bass, a scrappy white perch, and yet another largemouth bass that kept our anglers on their toes.

As the morning progressed, we kept the momentum going with a second double-up on crappie, followed by several more quality crappie, white perch, and a chunky bluegill.

To adapt to the late morning sun, we adjusted our strategy. We picked up our trolling speed slightly and moved our spread out over deeper water to target suspended schools. This adjustment paid off instantly, yielding a quick double-up on white perch, followed by more crappie, white perch, and bluegill. When that deeper pattern eventually hit a brief slow stretch, we didn’t hesitate to pivot. We turned back to our primary structure in 10 to 12 feet of water, which immediately produced another keeper crappie, a baby channel catfish, and a highly satisfying triple-up on white perch to officially wrap up an outstanding morning of angling.
