Matt booked an evening trip, looking for Hickory shad. The Hickory shad were not very fired up, but we spent a couple hours catching blueback herring, White perch and just a couple Hickory shad.

This was a short trip and we decided to transition to catfish as the sun was setting. We moved down river and anchored up on some structure that has been holding fish all spring.

We didn’t have rods in the water for 10 minutes when a hellcat rod folded over. Matt’s Dad Sam jumped on the rid and the fish put up a heck of a fight. The closer it got to the boat the more the fish started to dig. We finally got the fish in the net, pulled over the edge, and everybody was amazed at how big this blue catfish was. This fish weighed in at 28 1/2 pounds. Congrats on an awesome catch.

We threw a live bait out in the water on some structure, and it wasn’t long before the end of the rod started twitching. We watched this fish munch on the rod for close to 10 minutes before it finally took the rod down. The fish came to the boat easy, but would not lift off the bottom. We tried to pull the fish up towards the boat. It simply wasn’t budging off the bottom this fish had attached to the bottom and did not want to give up after a hard fight the fish surfaced, and we got a net underneath it. This was the catch of the night being a flathead catfish just a couple ounces under a trophy weight. 38 inches and 24.7 pounds, this was a true river monster. Congrats on an awesome catch.

The trip was almost over, but we waited for one more bite, which never came. We packed up the rods and headed in.
Thanks for coming out and chasing fish all afternoon gentlemen we hope to see you on the water again soon.
