James River is Full of Life

Todd booked a trip for his daughter and son-in-law to join him on the James River for the first time. We started the morning catching white perch for bait.

After about an hour of reeling and fish after fish, we set our sites on chasing catfish.

Our first catfish of the day came in and it was a small blue catfish.

We tossed the rods back out and hooked up on a nice blue catfish in the 15 pound range.

Shortly after catching that fish, we found another blue catfish a little under 20 pounds.

The rods continued to go down with another fish in the 16 pound range.

We had hit this spot pretty hard and decided to search around the river a little bit more. We caught some small fish, but it was hard to position the boat, and after trying a few more spots, we went back to our original pattern.

We hooked up to a giant fish, but he did not get the hook and came off. It was tough to lose that fish, but we were wrapped up the morning with another blue catfish in the 15 pound range.

Our group enjoyed an action packed morning and we’re impressed with how alive the James River is this time of year. We sent them home with some fillets to enjoy for dinner. Thanks for coming out. We hope to see you on the water again soon.
