Haz Life Fishing on The James River

We had Haz Life down to shoot a YouTube video on the boat. The goal was to hang out, kick back, and catch a couple fish. We had fresh bait ready to go from our morning trips so it was fishing time!
The wind was gusting and we pulled off the river to hide in a shallow mud flat. We didn’t even have all the rods out before they were getting tapped. We missed a couple of finicky fish right off the bat before hooking up with a nice blue catfish. This fish came out of the shallows and was fired up. We got him into the boat and he was a little shy of a trophy on weight but he made the cut by length. What an awesome 38 1/2 inch blue catfish.

The bite continued to be fast but finicky in this location. We caught a couple smaller fish and decided to move on. We fired up the grill and cooked some hotdogs while we caught a couple small fish.

The wind started to swirl in this location, and we moved again, pulling the boat very shallow on a mud flat. Rods were getting hit immediately and we caught a few small fish. One of the bait runner reels started screaming and Haz reeled down on it. This fish was rocketing across the shallows and it took a while to bring the slack out of the line. Once the line went tight, it wasn’t much of a fight on a catfish rod, but Haz was rewarded with a first ever bowfin. That was one mean fish.

We caught a few more fish on anchor and broke out the grill to slow cook some beef brisket burgers. When I say these were some of the best burgers I ever had I mean, these were some of the best burgers I ever had.
It was getting late so we moved up to follow the tide and we rewarded with another really nice blue catfish. This one weighed in right around 25 pounds.

We had saved some of the fish in the live well for a big release party. Overall, it was a very fun day on the river. Make sure you check out the YouTube video linked below. https://youtu.be/BmWg1VOnHj4?si=I69hpe5xevlJg--J
Thanks for coming out. Can’t wait for the next trip.
