We had Tyler, Amy, Esmarie, Joe, and Luke out for a half day of fishing. With temperatures hovering around 30° we were happy to see that there was no wind which made for a very comfortable morning. Our crew was interested in catching any kind of fish with a trophy fish being a bonus so we got to work, trying to put some eaters in the boat. We anchored up on a mud flat that was holding a lot of bait where we knew catfish had been scattered. The rods were getting hit right from the start. Throughout our 30 minute anchor rods never stopped getting hit, but nothing was hooking up so we moved on to fish another cluster of fish.

We moved to a channel ledge where we could fish deep and shallow with rods anywhere from 2 foot to 40 foot deep. All of our shallow rods were the ones getting hit and we even caught two fish right around 5 pounds. The boys were super excited about these fish. We knew that what we had in store for them for later was really going to get them excited.

After catching those fish, we started fishing some water that would heat up quick from the sun. We started dragging baits. It didn’t take long before a rod folded over and we found ourselves staring face-to-face with a 27 pound catfish. What a catch!

We were still coming down from the excitement of that fish when I saw a planer board get buried underwater and a rod fold in half. That planer board had been riding the shoreline and the way that fish hit the board so violently, I knew it was going be a good one. The fish fought hard and kept pulling drag. Joe did an awesome job and the look on his face was priceless when he watched the 49 pound blue catfish come over the side of the boat.

Time flies on the water and our time was running short, but we continued to drag baits without a lot of success. This did give us time to clean up a bunch of the eater fish and send our guest home with a bag full of fillets to try for the first time.

The most exciting part of the day was yet to come. As an aside, we’re currently running a promotion for guess who book an eight hour trip. If they catch a trophy fish, they win a Catch the Fever hellcat rod. One of our recent guests earned himself a rod and chose to pass it on to the next young person that fished on our boat. We knew this would make a great birthday present and he totally made everybody’s day when we got to hand the rod over and surprise our guests.

Thanks for an awesome morning on the water. We hope to see you back soon. Great job everybody.
