Trevor and Joey took advantage of a last-minute cancellation to jump on the boat Friday night. We had fresh gizzard shad ready to go when they stepped on the boat and we got right to fishing for a six hour trip. The guys were looking for some trophy fish so we started anchoring on spots that were holding good fish and plenty of bait. The first anchor had a couple takedowns and some really finicky bites, but no fish came in the boat. We went through a series of about five more anchors with the same thing going on. Lots of finicky bites, a couple takedowns, no hook ups.

We noticed a trend in water temperatures and started to follow key in in that, which led us to some nice fish. The first fish of the night broke Trevor‘s personal best at 26 pounds. That’s an awesome blue catfish right there!

We sat on that anchor for a little while longer with a couple finicky bites and not much else going on.

We continue to follow the trend of warmer water and that paid off huge at our next anchor. We didn’t have rods in the water for 10 minutes when a rod folded over. Trevor picked up on the rod and started fighting it knowing it was a great fish. We could tell it was tough for him to do, but he handed the rod to Joey, who caught his personal best at 42 pounds. Joey is now a member of the trophy club.

While we were fighting that fish, another rod went down huge, and Trevor jumped on it.

This fish put up a heck of a fight and when we finally got him to the boat, we were able to net him and pull him over the rail. This fish tipped the scale of 49 pounds and was the big fish of the night.

As we continue to fish the original pattern set back in with a lot of finicky bites and missed hook ups. We caught another smaller fish before the night turned really cold and it was time to head back to the ramp to wrap up an awesome adventure. Thanks for coming out and welcome to the trophy club guys!
