Crappie Fish Fry

Jeremy booked a fishing trip and brought his two sons out. We decided to chase some crappie, whic have been on fire through spawn. The trip started out quickly with 3 fish coming in the boat as soon as we started trolling. Two crappie and 1 white perch. The white perch was keeper size but the crappie were small so we tossed them back.

We continued to work our way into a creek, with pockets of action as we went. We caught a few more white perch and small crappie. As we got into the creek we watched another angler pull in his trot line where he had a number of small blue catfish and a really nice channel catfish. He was nice enough to give us a few of those fish to add to the fish fry.

Abnout halfway through the creek we started hitting some weed patches and some nice size crappie were hiding in the weeds. We had a serious of hook ups with 12in crappie coming into the livewell. Little by little this livewell was startign to fill up with a nice variety of fish.

The back portion of the creek was quiet with only a fish or two coming in the boat. We did catch a giant snapping turtle by the tail and luckily he came unhooked easily. The way out of the creek was quite as well but we started catching some big shellcracker, whihc were added to the live well.

As we were moving into another creek, we caught some big white perch and more shellcracker. To our surprise, the next creek was very quiet and we didn't catch any fish for nearly 45 minutes. After having put a solid chunk of time into this creek, we abandoned it and started to focus on the mouths of the creeks, which were far more productive.

We put on some heavier jigs, deeper diving crankbaits, and started to troll along the main channel ledges. We started to pick up a bunch of nice fish including the nicest crappie of the day at a little over 14in and about 1.25 lbs. What a nice fish!

Four hours goes by quickly on the water and we took our livewell of fish back to the dock to unload. Thanks for coming out and we hope you enjoyed the fish fry! See you again soon to chase some trophy catfish.
